SPRING FESTIVAL, ON THE OCCASION OF THE CHINESE NEW YEAR 2019

The Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Romania together with Niro Investment Group and the Romanian-Chinese House organized, between January 31 and February 2, for the tenth consecutive year, the series of cultural events “Spring Festival”, on the occasion of the Chinese New Year. During this edition, the artistic ensemble of the Beijing Dance Academy held performances of traditional Chinese dance in Bucharest and Ploiesti.

The events reflect the good relations that the two states have been developing for seven decades and which are based on a successful economic collaboration. Niro Investment Group has been supporting this collaboration for 25 years through investments and partnerships with Chinese companies, contributing to the development of large-scale projects in several fields. For example, more than 2,000 Chinese companies operate in the Dragonul Rosu Shopping Zone, the largest shopping center in Central and South-Eastern Europe.

The first show in the series of events “Spring Festival” took place in Ploiesti, at the Trade Union Hall, on Thursday, January 31, 2019, where the Beijing Dance Academy was preceded by the Doina Prahova Ensemble and the Chindia Folk Ensemble.

On Friday, February 1, 2019, those interested were able to watch the Chinese artists in a short performance inside the Dragonul Rosu Shopping Complex.

The series of events dedicated to entering the Chinese New Year ended on Saturday, February 2, 2019, with a show-event that took place at the Romanian Athenaeum. The guests enjoyed a variety of artistic styles, from traditional Chinese dance to pop-opera and authentic Romanian folklore, experiencing at the artistic level the Chinese-Romanian symbiosis. “The year 2019 has a special significance, because it marks 70 years of uninterrupted diplomatic relations between Romania and China. It is remarkable how the two countries have managed to provide a solid model of interstate cooperation, based on friendship and mutual support. We are confident that these bilateral relations will continue to expand into even wider areas, with the help of our Romanian partners. Therefore, on this anniversary, I would like to thank our Niro Investment Group partners for their involvement and support over the years, “said Tu Jiang, Acting Chargé d’Affaires of the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Romania.

Niro Investment Group is a traditional partner of the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Bucharest in organizing events marking the Chinese New Year and beyond. We look forward to supporting the Chinese community and strengthening this mutually beneficial cooperation. We hope that our partnership will grow and we are looking forward to starting new projects of common interest with the Chinese community in Romania, “said Nicolae Dumitru, president of Niro Investment Group.

We are happy to reveal Romanians the Chinese traditions and customs, and promote the values of one of the oldest cultures in the world, with a history as rich as China. The Romanian-Chinese House aims to be a bridge between the two countries, to contribute to the development of relations between Chinese and Romanian businessmen, to promote cultural exchanges and to come up with valuable initiatives for the community “, said Ecaterina Vanea, general manager of the Romanian-Chinese House.

In the opening of the event at the Athenaeum, Distinto, the first pop-opera project in Romania, was the first performer and was followed by the Chisinau Fiddler Orchestra conducted by maestro Nicolae Botgros, together with the singer Veta Biriş. The Chinese New Year show was performed by artists at the prestigious Beijing Dance Academy, established in 1954 and acquired the status of a higher education institution in 1978. The academy has a university teaching staff of nearly 600 people and over 3500 students.

The show offered in Romania this year by Chinese artists is based on Guo Feng, one of the four main sections of Shi Jing (Book of Poetry), the first anthology of songs, poems and hymns in Chinese literature. The choreographers of the Beijing Dance Academy created a whole dramatic performance based on folk and love songs from Guo Feng. The dance combines poetic elements with modern ideas, offering a way of natural communication through body expressions. Artists do not copy ancient popular movements, but present a reinterpretation of them.
